In a recent study, 80 percent of men and 57 percent of women said they exercise more because they were told to do so. The next most common reason was “it feels good”. In addition, 52 percent said that they exercise because they want to or because they want to try something new.

In the current study, men and women have different levels of fitness and are less physically active. I know for my own patients, it takes me a couple of days to get the hang of it in my office. But for people like me, it takes me a week and a half. So that’s one of the reasons I like to incorporate a little bit of mindfulness into my practice.

I recently put a couple of videos on the Planet Fitness website, and was surprised to see how many people were searching for free yoga classes on YouTube. That’s a real problem that people need to be aware of. I also had a patient tell me that he had a little time on his hands and that he was thinking of getting into a gym, but that he thought it would take too much time and money (not really). I don’t think he was entirely wrong.
