This is not a story about the housing market in Pittsburgh, but just a couple of weeks ago I did a podcast with a friend looking at the housing market in the Pittsburgh area. In the podcast, we talked about housing opportunities and what can be done to encourage more of them. One of the things they mentioned was the ability for the government to create incentives for people to buy a home. The government can subsidize housing like it has with the housing bailout and other programs that have been set up.
A good few months ago the government started telling everyone that it didn’t like your location to build. That was the start of a long process, but one that started to really get people going in the right direction. It’s not like these guys are going to be able to figure out how to build a house, but it’s a lot easier to do it in a way that works out the best way that will work for everyone.
But it still doesn’t solve the problem entirely, because there are still a lot of people who don’t have the money to build a house. Its easy to say, “Oh, you can fix that by going to a bank and getting a loan.” But the government will still get a check every month to help out the local banks, so they won’t be able to make loans to people who don’t have the money.
